Q. 1 ARE MY FEES COVERED BY MY HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY?

A. 1 I am covered by all major health insurance companies including BUPA, AXA PPP, NORWICH UNION, STANDARD LIFE, HSA, WPA, CIGNA Whilst being covered by all major health insurance companies it is the patients responsibility that they check with their insurer prior to commencement of treatment that they would be covered and obtain pre authorisation .
 
 
Q. 2 HOW DO I KNOW IF THE OSTEOPATH IS QUALIFIED?

A. 2 The title “osteopath” became protected by law in may 2000.As a result it is a criminal offence to describe oneself as an osteopath in the UK unless registered with the General osteopathic council.
 
 
Q. 3 WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN THE PRACTITIONER?

A. 3 Make sure the practitioner is properly qualified.The acupuncturist should be registered with the British acupuncture council[BAcC].Members have appropriate medical insurance cover.The osteopath should be registered with the general osteopathic council[GOsC] whose members are also covered by medical insurance.
 
 
Q. 4 WHY SHOULD I GO TO BAcC MEMBER AND GOsC MEMBER?

A. 4 BAcC members are extensively trained in acupuncture as well as covered by full medical malpractice and public liability insurance.GOsC members are also extensively trained in osteopathy and also covered by full medical malpractice and public liability insurance.
 
 
Q. 5 IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?

A. 5 As a registered acupuncturist and a member of the british acupuncture council we are bound by the standards of practice which lays stringent laws regarding hygiene and sterilization of needles and other equipment.All needles used are single disposable needles.
 
 
Q. 6 WHAT HAPPENS ON MY FIRST VISIT?

A. 6 Your first consultation will be longer than subsequent visits.The practitioner needs to assist your general state of health in order to identify your state of health the tissues causing disease and give you the most effective treatment. You will be asked about your symptoms and what treatment you have received so far your past medical history your diet ,digestive system , sleep pattern your emotions and occupation.He will examine your movements take orthopaedic and osteopathic tests.Once enough information has been gathered to determine the likely cause of your symptoms the practitioner will select the most appropriate treatment.
 
 
Q. 7 WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE TREATMENT?

A. 7 Do not eat for at least one hour before treatment as food may alter the quality of your pulse.You must avoid alcohol and any coloured beverages as this may change the colour of your tongue.Also make a list of all the medication you are taking this should include vitamin and mineral supplements.If you have had a scan or X rays please take the reports with you.It would be also helpful to take results of your blood tests.
 
 
Q. 8 SHOULD I TELL MY DOCTOR?

A. 8 We encourage our patients to discuss acupuncture and osteopathic treatment with their GP.Most doctors are interested in alternative treatment which may benefit the patient.
